Plant Microbial Biostimulants

Plant microbial biostimulants are microorganisms whose function when applied to plants or the rhizosphere is to stimulate natural processes to enhance nutrient uptake, nutrient efficiency, tolerance to abiotic stress and crop quality, promoting growth and productivity. Plant Growth Promoters and Regulators - PGPR technology

Nature of technology: one group of microorganisms beneficial to crops is bacteria that colonise the roots or rhizosphere soil of crop plants.

PGPR products are developed for seed treatment, soil application and foliar spray. The organisms are isolated from the native soils belong to the genus Bacillus. Fermentation and downstream processing has been developed by SRIBIO’s in-house R&D.
The PGPR’s are Bacillus spp which are found in soil and induce plant growth by secreting growth promoting substances.
SRIBIO has isolated these organisms from native soils and characterised them. It took two years to develop commercial products with the requisite shelf life. PGPRs are a novel class of microbes which help the plant in two ways: by inducing growth and by promoting resistance to diseases.
SRIBIO has developed liquid, powder and granular formulations of these PGPRs and launched them in 2003.
PGPR-based products have now become popular in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan & Gujarat, and there has been an excellent response from the farming community.

Biofertilizers - Bio-fortification technology

There are several beneficial microorganisms that are able to solubilize micronutrients in order to promote better uptake by plants. These microorganisms are able to mobilise micronutrients and improve nutrient uptake by the plants. It is possible to use nitrogen-fixing bacteria or mycorrhizae with microbial biostimulants (MBS) able to induce root development in order to improve nitrogen uptake.
